Karis Joi Johnson

Associate Attorney

Licensed In Texas

Attorney Karis Joi Johnson has proudly called San Antonio home since 2006, when she began her career as a special education teacher. Today, she serves as a passionate, women-centered family law attorney, dedicated to empowering women to redefine their family dynamics and, most importantly, their relationship with themselves.

A lifelong learner and advocate, Attorney Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts from New York University, where she studied Africana Studies and Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Arts. Immersed in the heart of New York City just after 9/11, her time at NYU helped cement her commitment to service, justice, and healing through storytelling and leadership.

After relocating to Texas, she earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she was recognized with the Pro Bono and Public Service Award for her legal work with underserved families across Texas. Simultaneously, she pursued and completed a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Urban Economic Development, graduating with distinction.

Attorney Johnson’s dedication to public service took her to Capitol Hill, where she was awarded a United States Congressional Fellowship. As Legislative Counsel to a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, she focused on criminal justice reform and family-centered federal policy, continuing her mission to advocate for women, children, and families across both sides of the aisle on a national level.

Licensed to practice before the Texas Supreme Court and a proud member of the Texas State Bar, Attorney Johnson was named one of Texas’s “Women in Law” by Who’s Who in America in 2020. Her legal career has included fighting for justice on behalf of victims of catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, and workplace accidents at one of the nation’s leading personal injury firms—where she developed her signature philosophy: to represent every client with aggressive dedication and deep compassion.

In addition to her legal career, Attorney Johnson has devoted over 15 years to public education as a Title I teacher and administrator, advocating for students with special needs. She has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Decade of Service Award and the Customer Service Recognition Award for her exceptional work with students, families, and colleagues.

Through her work in family law, Attorney Karis Joi Johnson seeks to instill dignity, equity, and healing in the lives of the women and families she serves. Her guiding principle remains:

“Would this be good enough for my own child? For my own family? For my future self?”

Beyond her professional pursuits, she finds joy in traveling, attending sports events, and homemaking with her family, who remain her greatest source of inspiration and support.
